Enugu: Governor Mbah, 24 Lawmakers, 260 Councillors, and Entire State Exco Set to Join APC — Reports
The political landscape in Enugu State is on the verge of a seismic shift as Governor Peter Mbah, 24 state lawmakers, 260 councillors, and the entire State Executive Council are reportedly preparing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a report by Vanguard, monitored by Njenje Media, the mass defection will be officially announced on October 14, 2025, marking what many describe as the end of PDP’s long-standing dominance in Enugu State.
Speaking in Abuja, the APC Caretaker Chairman in Enugu, Dr. Ben Nwoye, confirmed that the Governor’s move to the ruling party is “total and all-encompassing,” noting that virtually every PDP structure in the state will move alongside Mbah.
“He is not coming alone. He is coming with the entire political structure of Enugu PDP — the lawmakers, councillors, and party executives,” Nwoye said, as quoted by Njenje Media.
Party insiders and analysts say this development could reshape the political balance in the Southeast, ending over two decades of PDP dominance in the state and strengthening APC’s foothold ahead of the 2027 elections.
At the inauguration of the new APC caretaker committee in Enugu, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, called the defection a “strategic political realignment,” urging party leaders to consolidate the momentum:
“The APC is home for all. Our mission is clear — to grow stronger, win more states, and deliver lasting progress,” he said.
Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, also praised the move, describing it as a political rebirth for the Southeast.
“With Enugu joining APC, the region has regained its voice in national politics,” he stated.
Political observers believe this sweeping realignment could trigger similar moves in neighbouring states such as Anambra and Abia, positioning the APC for a stronger showing in the next general elections.
