A white Mercedes-Benz SUV, earlier snatched by armed criminals during an attack on a police patrol team along Umuoji Road, has been successfully recovered following a coordinated pursuit operation.
In a statement by SP Ikenga Tochukwu, Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, the operation involved the Operations Department Awka, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Akwuzu, and the Special Anti-Cultism Unit (SPACS) Enugu-Ukwu.
The statement added that the criminals, who had attacked the patrol team at Eziowelle, encountered a convoy attached to former Governor and ex-Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige. A brief gun duel forced the suspects to abandon the vehicle and flee.
SP Tochukwu confirmed that one police operative sustained a minor gunshot injury and is receiving treatment. The recovered vehicle has been secured for further investigation, while a state-wide manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing hoodlums. The police assured the public that updates on arrests and developments would be communicated promptly.
