Anambra Police Through POCACOV Set to Stage a Walk Against Cultism and Other Social Vices

The Anambra State Police Command, through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), is set to organize on 19th December 2025 by 7am, starting from Dr Alex Ekwueme Square Awka, a public awareness walk aimed at discouraging cultism and other social vices across the state.

This initiative is part of the Inspector General of Police’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, security, and moral reorientation, especially among youths. The walk is designed to sensitize members of the public on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, violent crimes, and other related vices, while encouraging positive behavioral change and community participation in crime prevention.

The event is expected to attract the participation of security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, Keke union and bus drivers union, students, civil society groups, and other relevant stakeholders, all united in a common resolve to rid the state of cult-related activities and criminal tendencies.

The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips Phd emphasized that POCACOV remains a non-kinetic, community-driven approach to policing, focusing on engagement, advocacy, and partnership rather than enforcement alone. The Command reiterates its commitment to working closely with communities to address the root causes of crime and promote sustainable peace and development.

Members of the public have been encouraged to support and actively participate in the walk, as collective action remains vital in tackling cultism and other social vices in Anambra State.
