Former Nigeria’s Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the purported call of the United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken to Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s President-elect.
The US Secretary of State had reportedly called Tinubu to congratulate him on his victory at the polls while promising that the US will work with his incoming administration.
Atiku, who was the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 elections expressed shock at the call.
The Waziri Adamawa took to social media micro-blogging site, Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with Sec Blinken’s action.
He wrote:
I am in disbelief that
@SecBlinken
called Tinubu, a contradiction to the publicly stated position of the US on Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election. This is inconceivable considering that America, as the bastion of democracy, is well briefed on the sham election of February 25. To give legitimacy to the widely acknowledged fraudulent election in Nigeria can be demoralising to citizens who have hedged their bet on democracy and the sanctity of the ballot
