The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora has officially confirmed the overnight attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools, Papiri, in Agwara LGA of Niger State, where armed men abducted pupils, students, teachers, and a security personnel who was critically shot.
According to the Diocese’s statement issued on 21st November 2025, the gunmen stormed the school between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., causing widespread fear and panic within the mission community. Although the Diocese did not specify the number of abducted victims, earlier intelligence gathered by Njenje Media News indicates that up to 52 students may have been taken.
The Diocese condemned the attack and expressed deep concern for the safety of the kidnapped victims and their families. It confirmed that security agencies have been informed and that coordinated rescue operations are underway.
