Simon Ekpa, the leader of the Auto-Pilot arm of the Indigenous People Of Biafra causing havoc in the South East has been arrested by the Police in Finland at his apartment in Lahti, NjenjeMediaNews reports.

According to Helsingin Sanomat, “the police have arrested Simon Ekpa, a Nigerian living in Lahti”.

The Central Criminal Police Inspector in Lahti, Finland, Tommi Rehn confirmed to Helsingin Sanomat that Ekpa was arrested in Lahti earlier today.

Rehn however declined to make public the reason for the arrest, noting that, a “man was arrested, but at this stage, his name or the reason for the arrest cannot be made public”.

 “We cannot comment further on the matter at this stage, because the measures related to the operation are still ongoing”, he says.

NjenjeMediaNews recalls, that the Nigerian government had on several occasions asked Finland to intervene regarding the activities of Simon Ekpa and had urged them to prevent him from causing havoc from far away Finland.

Ekpa had said in a couple of his broadcasts preached for the use of violence against Nigerian government security forces and had on multiple occasions imposed a curfew on certain days of the week on residents of five states within the South-East.

NjenjeMediaNews also recalls, that Southern and Middle Belt Elders on Thursday last week had a meeting with the Finland Ambassador in Abuja, centered on the call by Simon Ekpa to stop elections in the South Eastern part of Nigeria.
