The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared Sunday, December 7, 2025, a national day of prayer across all Christian denominations in response to what it describes as an ongoing genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

Njenje Media News reports that the decision was reached at the 4th Quarter Meeting of the CAN National Executive Council (NEC) held on November 18, 2025, in Jos, Plateau State.

In a directive signed by CAN President, His Eminence Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel C. Okoh, church leaders and pastors nationwide have been instructed to mobilize their congregations for the special prayer programme.

The official statement released by the CAN General Secretariat listed five key prayer points:

1. Divine intervention to end the systematic killing and persecution of Christians across the country.

2. Divine assistance in the safe return and resettlement of millions of displaced Christians to their ancestral lands.

3. Total cessation of terrorist, bandit, and kidnapper activities plaguing Nigerian communities.

4. God-given wisdom and courage to government officials and security agencies to confront and defeat forces of wickedness.

5. Complete restoration of lasting peace and tranquility throughout Nigeria.

The statement invoked 2 Chronicles 7:14 (“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray…”) and Esther 4:15-16 as scriptural foundations for the nationwide solemn assembly.

Speaking on the initiative, Apostle Professor Samson A. Fatokun, FNACM, FNAPC, CAN General Secretary, stressed that “this is a moment for the Church in Nigeria to rise in united, fervent prayer, believing that God will arise and scatter every enemy of His people.”
