A coalition of civil society organisations has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent the proposed arraignment of senior lawyer and human rights advocate, Mike Ozekhome.
The groups described the planned legal action as unnecessary, politically sensitive and potentially damaging to democratic freedoms, warning that it could undermine public confidence in the rule of law.
In their joint statement, the organisations argued that Ozekhome’s long standing record as a defender of civil liberties should be taken into account.
They cautioned against actions that could be perceived as intimidation of critical voices, urging the Federal Government to prioritise dialogue, constitutional safeguards and respect for dissent in a democratic society.
