Court Denies Bauchi Commissioner Accused Of Financing Terrorism Bail

A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused the bail application of the Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance Yakubu Adamu, and three others who are facing charges bordering on terrorism financing.Justice Emeka Nwite on Monday refused the bail on the grounds that terrorism-related offences are not ordinarily bailable.

 

The judge had on Friday granted Adamu N500 million bail and two sureties in like sum in a separate charge bordering on money laundering.

The commissioner was alleged to have laundered sums valued at N4.6 billion alongside Ayab Agro Products and Freight Company Ltd during his time as the branch manager of Polaris Bank Ltd, Bauchi, sometime between June 2023 and December 2023 for purported financing of the supply of motorcycles to Bauchi State Government through Emmanuel Asomugha General Enterprises.

However, in the separate terrorism charge, for which he was denied bail, the EFCC on a 10-count charge, Adamu was alleged to have between January and May 2024, while being Accountant-General of Bauchi State, conspired with Samaila Irmiya Liman, now at large; Balarabe Ilelah, Aminu Bose and Kabiru Mohammed, all being civil servants, to provide the sum of $2.3 million for the benefit of Bello Bodejo and persons  associated with him, pursuant to approvals granted by Gov.
