United States President Donald Trump stated that Iran possessed far more missiles than previously believed and was preparing to launch an attack on the United States. Speaking on Monday at the House Republicans’ annual policy retreat in Florida, he said, “Within a week, they were going to attack us, 100%. They were ready. They had all these missiles, far more than anyone thought, and they were going to attack us.”
In a later phone interview with CBS News from his Doral, Florida golf club, Trump claimed U.S. forces had already severely weakened Iran’s military. “I think the war is very complete, pretty much. They have no navy, no communications, no air force. Their missiles are scattered, and their drones are being destroyed, including production sites,” he said. The U.S. military reported striking over 3,000 targets across Iran during the first week of operations.
Trump also responded to Iran’s announcement that Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei would succeed his father as supreme leader, saying he has “no message for him whatsoever” and suggesting he envisions an alternative leadership for the country.
