Edo Election: Police Arrest Political Thugs, Recover Firearms in Overnight Raids

In a major breakthrough ahead of the Edo State election, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested two political thugs and recovered multiple firearms in a bid to prevent electoral violence. The suspects, identified as 43-year-old Edwin Obanor and 41-year-old Audu Tajudeen, a PDP member from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, Edo, were apprehended in separate raids conducted overnight.

Acting on a tip-off, police operatives swiftly moved into action after receiving reports that certain individuals had been armed to incite violence during Saturday’s election. The first suspect, Obanor, was arrested at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 p.m. In his possession, police discovered three cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols. Shortly after, Tajudeen was apprehended in Igara Akoko, where he was found with a locally made gun.

These arrests highlight the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to prevent any form of electoral violence and maintain law and order throughout the election process. The suspects are currently in police custody and will face legal action.

The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have vowed to deal decisively with illegal arms bearers and troublemakers. They have reiterated that any form of violence or disorderliness will not be tolerated during the election.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the published helplines. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to safeguarding lives and property throughout the electoral period.
