Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has pledged to step down if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Friday in an interview with African Independent Television (AIT), Okpebholo highlighted the state’s development projects as a testament to Tinubu’s impact and a reason for Edo voters to support him.
“Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. How they will thank him is through their votes. The various projects across the state are proof of his contributions, and he will win here. Bet me, if he doesn’t win, I will resign as governor,” Okpebholo said.
He added that his political approach is grounded in grassroots engagement rather than intimidation, noting that he learned from Chief Aneni and emphasising a style of politics focused on direct community involvement.
