Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, challenging what he describes as the unlawful search of his Abuja residence.
The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja under FHC/ABJ/CS/345/2026, seeks to nullify a February 4 magistrate-issued search warrant that allowed ICPC officials to enter and seize items from his home.
El-Rufai’s legal team, led by Oluwole Iyamu, is asking the court to declare the warrant invalid and void any actions taken under it. They are also contesting the legality of ICPC’s conduct during the operation.
The former governor has been in ICPC custody since Wednesday, February 18, amid ongoing investigations, though details of the probe have not been made public.
On Thursday, his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, confirmed on social media that the Aso Drive residence had been raided. Lawyer Ubong Akpan described the ICPC’s action as “unlawful and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”
