Nigerian billionaire entrepreneur Folorunso Alakija has been ranked the second richest woman in Africa in the latest list released by Forbes, reinforcing her status as one of the continent’s most influential business figures.

 

With an estimated net worth above one billion dollars, Alakija has remained Nigeria’s richest woman for years, with wealth driven largely by investments in oil and gas, as well as interests in fashion printing and real estate. She is the founder and managing director of the Rose of Sharon Group, a conglomerate with operations across several sectors.

 

Topping the list is Isabel dos Santos, whose fortune is estimated at 2.2 billion dollars, while Bola Shagaya ranks third with about 630 million dollars.

 

The ranking reflects the growing economic influence of women across Africa, particularly in industries such as energy, finance, and manufacturing. South Africa recorded the highest number of entries, with six women featured, highlighting its strong presence in the business landscape.

 

According to Forbes, the list includes women with a minimum net worth of 10 million dollars, recognising those who have built significant wealth while contributing to economic growth in their countries.

 

Born on July 15, 1951, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Alakija rose from the fashion industry to become a major player in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, building a reputation for resilience and strategic investment.

 

Beyond business, she is also known for her philanthropic efforts, supporting initiatives in education, healthcare, and community development, further cementing her influence across the continent.
