Former Senate Deputy President Ovie Omo-Agege has refuted claims made by a newspaper suggesting he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, Omo-Agege, who was the APC’s governorship candidate in Delta in 2023, labelled the report as “allegation journalism” devoid of any truth.

He stated, “We have been alerted to a bizarre publication alleging that Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who served as Deputy President of the Senate in the 9th Session, is plotting to abandon the APC to establish a non-existent new political party. This story is not only shocking but also absurd.

“Senator Omo-Agege led the APC to its best performance in the 2023 general elections in Delta State, securing two of the three senatorial seats. He was also unjustly denied victory in the gubernatorial race. Linking him to the political group purportedly being formed by the former Kaduna State governor is completely unfounded.

“While we are taken aback by this report, we are not entirely surprised. It appears to be a smear campaign by political adversaries seeking to drive a wedge between Senator Omo-Agege and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The publication failed to provide any evidence of Senator Omo-Agege meeting with this supposed political group. Furthermore, despite claiming to have sought responses from two Presidential spokespersons, Mr Sunday Dare and Barr. Daniel Bwala, the author of the article never reached out to Senator Omo-Agege himself.”
