Oseloka Henry Obaze, the seasoned Nigerian diplomat, author, and former United Nations official, is back in the partisan arena with a new banner over his head. After quietly stepping away from party politics eight months ago on what he called grounds of principle, the former Secretary to the Anambra State Government has now announced that he has officially joined the African Democratic Congress.
In a post on social media, Obaze wrote:
“Eight months ago, I disengaged from partisan politics and from my erstwhile political party on grounds of principles. Today, I wish to announce that I’m now a proud card carrying member of ADC. We walk the talk. We must Rethink and Reunite Nigeria. Much work lies ahead.
OHO”
Obaze is known for his calm intellect, policy driven approach, and long public service record that stretches from Nigeria’s Foreign Service to more than two decades at the United Nations. He later served under Governors Peter Obi and Willie Obiano as Secretary to the Anambra State Government, ran for governor himself, and became a key figure around Obi’s more recent political movement.
His decision to join ADC signals both a return and a reset. In classic Obaze fashion, the message was sober, almost poetic, and heavy with duty: Nigeria, he suggests, needs less noise and more nation building. He is betting that ADC offers a platform that matches his ideals.
Politics moves in circles, but character shows in straight lines. Now that he has picked his new political home, the hard part begins. And as he says, much work indeed lies ahead.
