On Sunday, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State expressed his condolences to the families and community members affected by the tragic incident in Nibo, Awka South LGA. During his visit to Eke Market in Awka on Monday, as part of his regular state monitoring activities, Soludo pledged to bring the perpetrators of the violent act to justice and intensify efforts to eradicate cultism in the state.
No fewer than 13 persons were reportedly killed during a cult-
The clash, which occurred during the New Yam festival in Nibo, resulted in the deaths of at least 13 individuals. Governor Soludo urged the community to continue their lawful activities, assuring them that those responsible for the violence would be apprehended, regardless of where they might hide.
“Every avoidable loss of life in Anambra deeply saddens me, especially when it involves young people,” Soludo stated. “The senseless violence between rival cults in our communities is devastating. The tragic events in Nibo, where young lives were lost, are unacceptable. We have an anti-cultism law, and I have ordered immediate action against those involved. However, laws alone are not enough. Parents and community leaders must unite to protect our youth. We cannot stand by while our children destroy themselves. Let’s take action at home and in our communities to end cultism. We will continue to pray for the lost souls and strive for a safer Anambra where people live by the law and learn from this avoidable tragedy.”
