Israel’s defence minister has confirmed that the country carried out a preventative military strike against Iran on Saturday, describing it as a preemptive measure amid fears of an imminent missile or drone attack on Israeli territory.
Explosions were reported in Tehran, with Iranian state media acknowledging the blasts but providing no further details on their cause or impact.
In Israel, air raid sirens were sounded early on Saturday morning. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said the alerts were issued to prepare the public for the possibility of incoming missiles. Authorities also sent direct mobile phone alerts, instructing residents to remain close to protected spaces.
Following a security review, Israel’s Home Front Command shifted the country’s status from “Full Activity” to “Essential Activity.” Under the updated guidelines, schools, public gatherings, and non-essential workplaces are suspended, with only essential sectors allowed to operate. The public has been urged to follow official guidance issued through Home Front Command channels and the National Emergency Portal.
The preemptive strike and heightened alert come amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, raising concerns over a potential broader regional conflict. Sirens and emergency measures underscore the seriousness of the situation as both countries brace for possible retaliation.
