Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has recused himself from hearing the fundamental human rights suit filed by former Nasir El-Rufai, citing plans to proceed on leave.
Following his withdrawal, the case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court for reassignment to another judge.
The suit alleges violations of El-Rufai’s fundamental rights and raises concerns about actions taken by agencies including the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. It also references the reported invasion of his Abuja residence and mentions the involvement of other agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Department of State Services in ongoing legal matters concerning him.
Previously, El-Rufai had asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to quash charges filed against him by the DSS, arguing that they were incompetent, disclosed no recognisable offence under the law, and represented a gross abuse of the court process.
