KANU NWANKWO HEART FOUNDATION 5KM WALK FOR LIFE : As part of its 25th Anniversary Celebration and to mark the 2025 World Heart Day, the Kanu Nwankwo Heart Foundation founded by former Arsenal Football Club Star and Ex Green Eagle of Nigeria Great, Kanu Nwankwo, on 27th September 2025, organized a 5Km Health Walk which took place at Ikoyi/Lekki, Lagos.
The 5km Walk was scheduled to commence at Falomo Roundabout and end at Evercare Hospital, Admiralty Way, Lekki via Bourdillon Road, but as a result of the visit of the President of Nigeria to Lagos who was staying at his personal residence at Oyinkan Abayomi/Bourdillon Road, the Walk had to be diverted through Glover Road and it then ended at the Alternative Bank Office, Admiralty Way, Lekki. The Walk was led by *Kanu Nwankwo*, and *Charly Boy, aka Area Fada*, singer-songwriter and TV show host.
At the Alternative Bank office, *Mr Jeku Ozoemene*, Executive Director, The Alternative Bank, welcomed the Walk participants to their office, before *Pastor Onyebuchi Abia*, National Coordinator, Kanu Heart Foundation addressed the audience about the activities of the Foundation since inception 25 years ago. The Foundation has facilitated more than *680 Open Heart Surgeries* to date. The first 2 Open Heart surgeries were conducted in London at a cost of *£100,000* which was personally funded by Kanu Nwankwo. For lower cost of surgeries patients were sent to *Isreal*, then followed by *India*, *Sudan*, and now *Nigeria*. More than *163 surgeries* were carried out in *Sudan* because of an excellent heart hospital being run by a not for profit organisation but the current civil war in the country has prevented the Foundation from sending patients to *Sudan* at the moment. The average cost of an Open Heart Surgery is now about *$13,000*. The 5km Health Walk was to create more awareness about the World Heart Day, and the activities of the Kanu Nwankwo Heart Foundation, especially the current fund raising drive of *DONATE N600 TO KANU HEART FOUNDATION*. Kanu Nwankwo thereafter took to the stage to share his personal experience with participants about how the Foundation was founded after his successful open heart surgery following the diagnosis of his heart ailment which took place after the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. His support for the Foundation which is a not for profit organization is his own modest contribution to humanity. NESH Foundation organizes its own Health Walks in partnership with *DR JOE NWILOH HEART FOUNDATION*, and is pleased to be associated with the activities of the *KANU NWANKWO HEART FOUNDATION*.
NESH Foundation is enjoining Nigerians to support the activities of the Kanu Nwankwo Heart Foundation. Donations through Bank Transfer can be made as follows:
