Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a former two term councillor in Ibeju-Lekki, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, over alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking.
The 45 year old, who currently works as a legislative aide, was apprehended on 2 March 2026 at his residence in Ilado following credible intelligence linking him to drug distribution. A search conducted in the house led to the recovery of 40 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, concealed in one of the rooms.
In his statement to investigators, Olalekan admitted ownership of the drugs and the property where they were discovered. He also confirmed that he previously served two terms as councillor representing Orimedu community in the local government council.
The arrest formed part of a wider series of anti narcotics operations carried out by the agency across several states.
