The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for external candidates, highlighting a strong performance nationwide, with more than 80 per cent of candidates securing at least five credits.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, by NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, during a press briefing at the council’s headquarters. Professor Wushishi also urged candidates to access their results online through the council’s official website using their examination registration numbers, a message shared via NECO’s official social media account.
A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination across 16 subjects, comprising 51,823 males (53.43 per cent) and 45,156 females (46.56 per cent), with 95,160 candidates eventually sitting for the exams. Performance in core subjects was strong: in English Language, 78.32 per cent of 93,425 candidates earned a credit or higher, while Mathematics recorded 91.35 per cent of 93,330 candidates achieving credit and above.
Overall, 68,166 candidates (71.63 per cent) obtained five credits including English and Mathematics. When excluding English and Mathematics, 86.26 per cent (82,082 candidates) achieved five credits and above.
The council, however, noted a rise in examination malpractice, reporting 9,016 cases, a 31.7 per cent increase from 2024. Disciplinary actions include the recommendation to blacklist five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo states, and the de-recognition of four examination centres in Niger, Yobe, and Kano due to irregularities.
The SSCE External examination primarily serves private candidates who missed internal school exams or wish to improve their previous results, offering an alternative route to academic certification.
