Nigeria has inaugurated the International British University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM), Africa’s first privately owned aeronautics university, designed to close the continent’s widening skills gap in the aviation industry.

The university, located in Nigeria, aims to produce world-class professionals capable of meeting the growing demand for skilled manpower across Africa’s aviation sector. Authorities estimate a deficit of more than 65,000 aviation-related jobs across the continent, a shortfall that IBUAM seeks to reduce through specialised education and training.

Speaking at the launch, officials highlighted the institution’s role in boosting local capacity, curbing the need for costly foreign training, and positioning Nigeria as a regional hub for aeronautical innovation and management excellence.

The university’s programmes will focus on aeronautical engineering, aviation management, and related disciplines, with modern facilities and global partnerships expected to align its standards with international best practices.
