The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has attributed the current leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the actions of its former presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a statement issued Thursday in Lagos by its National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, the party expressed sympathy with the ADC over its challenges but said it was “not surprised” by the turmoil, linking it to Kwankwaso and Buba Galadima.

NNPP accused the duo of attempting to hijack the party and of illegally altering its logo and colours without the consent of the leadership. The statement noted that while NNPP was registered in 2001, Kwankwaso and his followers only joined in 2022 to contest the 2023 presidential and other elections, during which Kwankwaso lost the presidency but his supporters won governorship and legislative seats, including in Kano State.

The party added that ADC’s decision to admit Kwankwaso and his supporters without prior reconciliation with NNPP leadership has drawn “God’s anger,” warning that failure to apologise could prolong the consequences of their actions.

NNPP described the situation as “regrettable” and urged ADC not to allow itself to suffer for offenses committed by others. The statement also alleged that Kwankwaso had failed to manage his political success, pointing out that some of his supporters were sympathetic to rival parties in the South-West.
