The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has urged key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, to consolidate under its platform to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
PRP Lagos State Chairman, James Adeshina, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday, citing the ongoing leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The party recently saw the de-recognition of its National Chairman, David Mark, and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, by INEC following a court order.
Adeshina described the ADC turmoil as a threat to opposition unity. “What should have been a strong alternative platform is now mired in internal disputes and leadership struggles. Fragmentation weakens opposition forces and creates room for unchecked dominance by the ruling party,” he said.
He argued that PRP’s stability and long-standing legacy make it a viable platform for opposition forces. “PRP has operated for 47 years with discipline, unity, and clear ideology. At a time like this, stability is not just an advantage—it is essential,” he said.
Adeshina called on opposition leaders to rise above party divisions and prioritize national interests. “This is not about abandoning ideals; it is about preserving them in a platform capable of sustaining your vision for Nigeria. The time to act is now,” he said, expressing confidence that PRP can contest and win both the presidency and key governorships if opposition forces unite.
