A student from Obafemi Awolowo University, Mr. Ojukọ Adesobi David, is demanding ₦15 million in damages after being falsely accused of rape on social media, sparking nationwide attention and online debate.

According to a legal notice dated February 22, 2026, solicitors from K.C. Anekwe & Associates, acting on David’s behalf, allege that a woman made a baseless rape claim against him around February 17, which was widely circulated online. The accusation reportedly included the public sharing of David’s phone number, exposing him to harassment and public shaming.

The lawyers described the allegation as “false, malicious, reckless, and lacking any factual basis,” asserting that it caused significant reputational harm, emotional distress, and loss of personal and professional opportunities. Following the viral post, David allegedly received numerous harassing messages and calls, and his name was widely discussed as that of a suspected offender.

The situation shifted when the woman later issued a public apology, admitting that the claim was made out of irritation rather than truth. However, David’s legal team contends that the apology did not sufficiently address the damage inflicted.

David’s demands now include:

₦15 million in compensation for defamation and related losses

A formal written apology and full public retraction across all platforms

Immediate deletion of all defamatory posts

A binding promise not to repeat the false claims

The woman has 14 days to meet these demands, after which legal action may commence. As of now, no official court case has been filed, and the matter remains at the pre-litigation stage.
