Awka, Anambra State — The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has officially announced plans for the 2025 Igbo Day commemoration, scheduled to hold in Awka, Anambra State, on Sunday, 28th and Monday, 29th September 2025.

This year’s theme, “Onye Aghana Nwanne Ya” (Be your brother’s keeper), underscores the values of unity, remembrance, and resilience among the Igbo people.

Igbo Day, regarded as a solemn and sacred occasion in the Igbo national calendar, serves as a time of collective reflection. It honours the memory of Igbo patriots and heroes whose sacrifices continue to inspire the pursuit of unity, justice, and peace in AlaIgbo.

According to the program outline, the commemoration will begin with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, 28th September, to be held simultaneously across churches in Igbo land. Later that day, by 4:00 pm, the Igbo Day Lecture will take place at Hilton Leisure Hotel, Regina Road, Awka. The lecture is expected to feature eminent scholars, cultural leaders, and stakeholders in what organisers describe as a thought-provoking session.

The Igbo Day Commemoration Proper will hold on Monday, 29th September 2025, at Ekwueme Square, Awka. The event will include prayers, tributes, and cultural performances showcasing Igbo heritage.
