Enugu, Nigeria — Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has formally appealed to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to intervene and adjust the State’s scheduled clean-up exercise fixed for Saturday, January 31, 2026, to allow unhindered participation in the Igbo Day of Adoration and Thanksgiving Service.
In a letter dated January 27, 2026, and jointly signed by the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, and His Grace, Archbishop David Onuoha, Chairman of the Representatives of Igbo Archbishops and Bishops of Alaigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization explained that the clean-up exercise coincides with the historic religious event.
The Igbo Day of Adoration and Thanksgiving Service, jointly organized by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and the Igbo Council of Archbishops and Bishops, is a major spiritual gathering dedicated to thanksgiving to God for the survival of the Igbo people after the Nigerian Civil War and for ongoing progress in Alaigbo.
According to the letter, Ohanaeze respectfully requested that the clean-up exercise either be rescheduled to the following week or concluded by 9:00 a.m., to enable worshippers to attend church services without restriction.
“We apologize, as the clean-up exercise was not brought to our attention during the decision-making process,” the letter stated, appealing for understanding from the Enugu State Government.
The organization further emphasized that the Igbo Day of Adoration is not merely a religious observance but a public acknowledgement of divine guidance in Igbo history, making it a matter of broad cultural and spiritual importance.
Ohanaeze also appealed to Governor Mbah to assist in public awareness efforts, urging the state’s radio and television stations to disseminate information about the event across Enugu State and beyond.
The letter concluded with gratitude and assurances of high regard, expressing confidence in the Governor’s sensitivity to matters of faith, culture, and civic harmony.
As of press time, no official response had been issued by the Enugu State Government, though expectations remain high that a mutually accommodating resolution will be reached.
