Enugu, Nigeria — Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has extended warm commendations to senior legal luminaries Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and Emeka Obegolu, SAN, Chairman of the Planning Committee of the just-concluded 2025 NBA Annual General Conference, for what it described as sterling leadership anchored on integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation hailed Emeka Obegolu, SAN for his “outstanding stewardship and exceptional demonstration of integrity” following his unprecedented return of over ₦1 billion to the NBA after the successful conclusion of the Enugu-hosted 2025 Annual General Conference.
According to the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, the gesture stands as a powerful symbol of ethical leadership, a quality rarely seen in Nigeria’s public and professional spaces.
“These virtues embody the highest ideals that Ohanaeze Ndigbo tirelessly promotes for all sons and daughters of Igbo land—and indeed all Nigerians—entrusted with positions of public responsibility,” Mbata said.
Ohanaeze described Obegolu’s accountability and transparent management of conference resources as a benchmark worthy of national emulation, particularly within the legal profession, where integrity remains indispensable. The body urged him to sustain the exemplary standard that has now distinguished his leadership within and beyond the Bar.
The organisation also congratulated Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, President of the NBA, for demonstrating sound judgment in appointing Obegolu to oversee the planning and execution of the 2025 conference. Ohanaeze applauded Osigwe’s stewardship in delivering what it called a “successful, well-organised, and nationally impactful” gathering of legal practitioners.
Obegolu, a seasoned lawyer and former General Secretary of both the Nigerian Bar Association and the Pan African Lawyers Union, currently serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board of the African Mediators Association. Ohanaeze noted that his record continues to affirm his “unwavering commitment to excellence, service, and the highest ethical values of the legal profession.”
