Opposition members of the House of Representatives staged a walkout during plenary over the Electoral Act amendment bill.
They left after their push to make electronic transmission of election results compulsory, without a manual backup in case of system failure, was rejected. The lawmakers argued that eliminating manual collation would boost transparency and reduce opportunities for result manipulation.
The majority, however, insisted on keeping manual collation as a safeguard against network or technical problems, a stance the opposition vehemently opposed.
A video circulating on social media shows the protesting lawmakers chanting “APC Ole” as they left the chamber, underscoring rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
