The Eastern Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies (EIES), Diocese of Enugu (Anglican Communion), in collaboration with She Grows Her Food Initiative and the Anakwenze Foundation, successfully trained over 500 women in a comprehensive Home Gardening Training Program.

The Anglican Communion, Diocese of Enugu, under the visionary leadership of Rt. Rev. Prof. Samuel Ike, Bishop of Enugu Diocese, took bold steps to address food security by hosting this transformative training event. The initiative is aimed at empowering women — the backbone of the nation — to embrace sustainable agriculture for food security and healthier living.

Participants were taken through intensive sessions on:

• Land preparation

• Pre-sprouting techniques

• Irrigation systems

• Use of organic fertilizers

• Cassava and yam plantation

• Staking methods

These sessions were conducted by the She Grows Her Food team, led by National Coordinator Mrs. Princess Nweke. Additionally, the Anakwenze Foundation led a session on packaging and processing, equipping participants with the knowledge to add value to their produce and explore entrepreneurial opportunities.

To ensure practical implementation, all participants received seedlings and manure, reinforcing the belief that every piece of land can be productive.

The program was not only impactful but also a step toward building a resilient, food-secure future through women’s empowerment in agriculture.
