The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed strong opposition to the recent ruling on local government autonomy, criticizing it for creating a new layer of bureaucracy. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated that the decision undermines the principles of federalism and decentralization, which are essential for effective governance.

Ologunagba argued that the ruling will lead to increased administrative costs, duplication of functions, and a lack of clear accountability. He also alleged that it will further empower the already powerful state governors, who will now have even more control over local government funds.

Furthermore, Ologunagba claimed that the ruling is a deliberate attempt to weaken the local government system, which is a vital tier of government closest to the people. He stated that it will stifle grassroots development and deny citizens their rights to participate in governance.

The party demands a review of the ruling, calling for a more inclusive and participatory approach to local government administration. Ologunagba emphasized the need for a system that prioritizes the needs and aspirations of the people, rather than perpetuating bureaucratic red tape and authoritarianism.
