Former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described the 2027 presidential election as a battle between Nigerians and bad leadership. Obi made the remarks on Saturday while officially joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Addressing supporters, Obi urged Nigerians to participate in the party’s ongoing online registration and membership drive. “With the support of all national leaders, I urge everyone to register, obtain your membership card, and go online. We want to register as many Nigerians as possible,” he said. “The 2027 election will be Nigerians fighting for justice.”
Obi also highlighted the South-East geopolitical zone’s right to produce Nigeria’s president, emphasising its integral role in the country. “South-East is part of Nigeria. Everywhere you go, you see someone from the South-East contributing to society. We want a new Nigeria — one where a child of nobody can succeed without knowing anybody,” he said.
The presidential hopeful stressed the link between poverty reduction and security, noting that lifting citizens out of poverty would help curb criminality. He further called on ADC members to recruit widely, mobilising Nigerians ahead of future elections.
