Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential candidate, reaffirmed his commitment to key areas of development during a visit to Nsukka, Enugu State, on Tuesday. Obi emphasized his belief that health, education, and poverty reduction are the cornerstone of true progress in the country.

While in Nsukka, Obi visited the proposed College of Nursing Sciences, which is being established at Faith Foundation Hospital. The visit was a follow-up to his earlier trip in November 2023, when he first met with the College’s founder, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo, the Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion. During that visit, Obi pledged an initial donation of N20 million to support the project.

“I was particularly impressed by the remarkable progress they have made so far,” Obi said. “Encouraged by their commitment to growth and considering the critical impact of the initiative, I have decided to donate an additional N20 million to the College.”

The new donation reinforces Obi’s promise of ongoing support for the project until its completion. He expressed optimism about the potential of the College to contribute significantly to primary healthcare in Nigeria, particularly by training skilled nurses and other healthcare professionals.

“The College will stand as another vital health institution dedicated to training our people in critical areas that will contribute immensely to primary healthcare,” Obi added.

Obi’s visit underscores his continued focus on initiatives that aim to improve Nigeria’s healthcare system and empower citizens through education. His message was clear: “To build a Nigeria that is possible, we must invest in the knowledge and skills our people need to build a better future.”
