Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi has continued his long-standing commitment to education and healthcare with a series of donations totaling N70 million to three institutions in Onitsha, Anambra State. The donations were made yesterday during Obi’s visits to Shanahan University, Waterside School of Midwifery, and St. Charles Borromeo School of Nursing Science.
Speaking during the official launch of Shanahan University, Obi stressed the importance of education as the key to societal progress, making a personal donation of N50 million to aid the new university’s infrastructural development.
In his words, “Education remains the surest path to success, and it is essential that we prioritize it. My token donation is to help support Shanahan University in its mission to provide quality education.”

Obi’s next stop was Waterside Midwifery in Onitsha, where he made a donation of N10 million to help improve training for midwives, aiming to reduce the high rates of infant mortality in Nigeria.
At St. Charles Borromeo School of Nursing Science, Obi reaffirmed his belief in the critical role that nursing schools play in the country’s healthcare system. He donated N10 million to assist in their continued development, emphasizing that better-trained healthcare workers are essential for improving health outcomes.
Obi, in his statement, expressed his vision for a “new Nigeria,” where investment in education and health is key to national development. He also hinted at future donations during his upcoming visits to other institutions in Anambra State, including the University of the Niger and Iyienu College of Nursing Sciences.
“A new Nigeria is POssible through greater education and enlightenment,” he said.
