Former presidential candidate and respected Nigerian politician, Peter Obi, has expressed profound gratitude to Nigerians worldwide for their support and solidarity following the incident at the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) office in Benin on Tuesday.

In a statement, Obi thanked citizens for their prayers, calls, and messages of support, particularly noting their encouragement for the families of the distinguished elder and former Governor of Edo State, Chief John Oyegun, and another former Governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor. He described the solidarity as strengthening his faith in the nation’s shared humanity and collective hope for a better Nigeria.

Reflecting on his personal experiences with lawlessness, Obi recalled the insecurity he witnessed in Anambra years ago, which motivated his pursuit of the state’s governorship to restore order and public trust. He warned that the current rise in violence and lawlessness across the country requires citizens to engage responsibly in governance, invoking Plato’s assertion that “the price good people pay for refusing to participate in government is to live under the rule of bad people.”

Obi called on Nigerians to elect leaders guided by competence, character, commitment, and compassion—those who prioritise service above power. He concluded by emphasising unity and courage as essential to building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria, reiterating his belief that a new Nigeria is possible.
