In a continued effort to engage key stakeholders in the national interest, Peter Obi, former governor and presidential candidate, traveled to Zaria yesterday to meet with Professor Ango Abdullahi, a respected academic and elder statesman.
The discussion focused on the state of the nation, the urgent need for unity, and practical strategies for rebuilding Nigeria. Both leaders engaged in frank talks about the challenges confronting the country and the responsibility of leadership to rise above divisions for the common good of all Nigerians. While at the Zaria airport, Obi also met a group of graduating pilots who approached him with enthusiasm and optimism. He encouraged the young professionals to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to excellence, stressing the importance of their skills, integrity, and professionalism for Nigeria’s development.

Following his visit to Zaria, Obi proceeded to Niger State to meet with former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida. During a previous meeting, Babangida had recommended the book Growing Apart, which examines how Indonesia achieved success while Nigeria faced setbacks despite similar trajectories. Obi obtained an autographed copy of the book from the author in the United States and presented it to Babangida during his visit.
The discussions with both elder statesmen reaffirmed Obi’s emphasis on national unity, security, and improving the quality of life for Nigerians. He reiterated his belief that meaningful progress requires honest dialogue and collective responsibility.
“A New Nigeria is possible,” Obi stated, highlighting the importance of engagement, accountability, and forward-thinking leadership.
