Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦50 million to his alma mater, Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, in a move aimed at improving infrastructure and fostering a better learning environment.
Obi made the donation in collaboration with fellow alumni of the prestigious institution. While addressing the school community, he emphasised the impact the college had on his personal and academic development.
“CKC helped shape the values guiding me: discipline, academic excellence, and moral grounding. Supporting this institution is a heartfelt act of gratitude,” Obi stated.
He described education as the most important investment any society can make, stressing its role in national development.
“Education remains the most critical investment we can make for the future. It is the bedrock of national development, and our schools must be strengthened to produce responsible, competent citizens,” he said.
Obi called on alumni of CKC and other schools across the country to contribute to the growth and sustainability of their former institutions.
“I urge all alumni of CKC and other schools to look back and give back. Let us not wait for the government alone. In our own ways, we can rebuild the institutions that once built us,” he urged.
He also extended his appreciation to the management of CKC and the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, for their efforts in advancing education.
“My appreciation goes to the management of CKC, the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, and all those working tirelessly for educational progress. May we continue to work together for the good of our children and our nation,” Obi added.

The donation has sparked praise among education advocates and community leaders, with many hailing it as an example of how private citizens can support national development through education.
