Veteran Nigerian actress and award-winning filmmaker, Shan George, has expressed concern over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s current leadership, drawing comparisons to his tenure as Lagos State Governor.

In a statement, George recalled Tinubu’s accomplishments while governing Lagos, highlighting projects such as the modernization of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2, dualization of Allen Avenue, and the establishment of LASTMA to clear streets of area boys. She noted that these initiatives transformed Lagos into a more orderly and prosperous city, despite limited federal support.

George said, “I remember when Tinubu was Lagos State Governor, he did with Lagos what Oti is currently doing in Abia State… Lagosians loved Tinubu. And so, I believe that was the yardstick by which he was measured for the role of President.”

However, she questioned the President’s current approach, saying, “The President we are seeing now makes me wonder, where is the Tinubu we used to know? The Tinubu who stood and protested and won against many past bad governance… the real city boy. What happened?”

Acknowledging the natural effects of aging, George urged Tinubu to consider stepping down voluntarily while still maintaining dignity. She criticized his aides for allegedly prioritizing personal gains over encouraging the President to retire honorably, stating, “Being the President of Nigeria, the Giant of Africa, is not moimoi. Baba should just resign now.”

Shan George emphasized her neutrality in politics, declaring she does not support any political party or presidential candidate. She described her remarks as those of a concerned citizen speaking respectfully.
