Valentine Ozigbo Confirms Defection to APC, Pledges Commitment to Anambra’s Development

Valentine Ozigbo, a prominent business leader and the 2021 Anambra governorship candidate, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling political party. The announcement was made on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at his home in Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State.

In a statement released by the Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation (VCO), the move was described as “historic,” with Ozigbo formally completing his registration as a member of the APC at his Amesi Ward.

“The Valentine Ozigbo Campaign Organisation wishes to officially announce that Valentine Ozigbo, a distinguished business leader, philanthropist, and visionary politician, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), Africa’s biggest political party,” the statement read.

Ozigbo, known for his leadership in the private sector and commitment to community development, shared his aspirations during interactions with APC leaders. “Mr Ozigbo outlined his grand vision for a brighter and better Anambra State, emphasising his unwavering commitment to transformational leadership, economic development, and people-centred governance,” the statement added.

Ozigbo also pledged his dedication to the growth and success of the APC in Anambra. His decision to switch parties was driven by his “deep-rooted belief in progressive governance” and a desire to collaborate with leaders who share his vision for policies that uplift Anambra and Nigeria.

Mr. Chidi Johnpaul Muokwe, APC Chairman of Amesi Ward, expressed excitement over Ozigbo’s decision, calling him “the light in the darkness that Anambra earnestly needs.” Chief Godson C. Anyadike, representing the party executives in Aguata LGA, welcomed Ozigbo with open arms. “In the history of APC in Aguata, no new member has ever come with this type of grace and excitement,” he remarked.

Several party executives, including Ogbatuluenyi Amesi, Euzebius Ezeliora, and Later Rain Chukwuma Ezenwankwo, praised Ozigbo’s personality and political acumen.

In a significant show of solidarity, Chief Dr. Tony Offiah, a Labour Party chieftain, and Chief Sir Afam Okpalauzuegbu, Labour Party Secretary in Aguata LGA, also decamped to the APC alongside Ozigbo.

Speaking on his next steps, Ozigbo announced plans to meet with APC’s national leadership before issuing a formal statement.

Ozigbo, a former President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, entered the political arena in 2020 and quickly rose to prominence, leading a grassroots movement in the South East. His strong showing in the 2021 Anambra governorship election saw him finish second behind Professor Charles Soludo.

With his resignation from the Labour Party on Wednesday, Ozigbo’s shift to the APC marks a new chapter of political engagement focused on unity, progress, and the collective prosperity of Anambra.
