Barinada Mpigi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, has passed away at the age of 64, sources confirmed to The Very Nigerian.
Born on June 23, 1961, Mpigi represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District until his death. He was elected to the Senate in 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) banner. Prior to his tenure in the Senate, he served in the House of Representatives, first elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2016.
During the Ninth Assembly, Mpigi chaired a joint Senate committee investigating crude oil theft in the Niger Delta and also led the Senate Committee on Works. Further details regarding the circumstances of his death were not immediately available.
