A 29 year old Sociology graduate of Kogi State University, Blessing Moshood, has reportedly been killed and her body discovered in a canal in Jikwoyi, Abuja.
According to reports, the incident happened last Thursday night.
Speaking to Abuja Metro, her sister, Abigail Moshood, said Blessing left home around 8pm after receiving a phone call. She added that Blessing later called back about an hour later, saying she would return briefly to pick up a forgotten phone charger.
Abigail said the family grew concerned when she did not return and failed to show up the next day.
“We later heard people talking about the body of a woman discovered inside a canal, and someone described the type of hairstyle the deceased had on, which matched my sister’s,” she said.
“My mother started crying, and we also learnt that policemen from the Jikwoyi Police Station had evacuated the corpse, which was found half-naked with only a top on, to a mortuary in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.”
She further explained that when she visited the police station, she was shown photographs that confirmed the identity of the deceased as her sister.
A neighbour, Margaret, described Blessing as intelligent, approachable, and well spoken.
“I learnt she graduated with a Second Class Upper in Sociology, and whenever she spoke, you could hardly fault her English,” she said.
“She was also very friendly in this neighbourhood and will be greatly missed by all of us, especially the children who have been crying since they learnt of her death.”
Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, called on security agencies to increase patrols and deploy detectives around the Jikwoyi Medical Centre axis to tackle rising cases of phone snatching and related crimes.
Police at the Jikwoyi division, speaking anonymously, confirmed the case was under investigation, while the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine, also confirmed that inquiries are ongoing.
