A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the acquisition of an Airbus presidential jet and a yacht, describing him as a “prodigal child” and making controversial remarks about his identity and family background.
Melaye made the comments in a video shared on his X account, where he questioned the decision to acquire the aircraft and yacht despite the availability of a presidential jet purchased during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Three years before the next government, Buhari bought a jet for the office of the President but Tinubu came and refused to use it, he’s the first Nigerian to get an AirBus,” Melaye said.
He further alleged that the government acquired a yacht that had never entered the country’s maritime boundaries.
“They acquired an AirBus and they acquired a Yacht that has never been to the perimeter of this country before,” he stated.
The ADC chieftain subsequently described Tinubu as a “prodigal child” and made remarks questioning the President’s family background.
“Is that not a prodigal child? But it’s not his fault, Yoruba people say a child with no identity,” he said.
Melaye also claimed that he had previously offered a financial reward to anyone who could identify a former classmate of the President.
“He has no father, no mother, no brother, I even did a competition online that if anybody can get his classmate will get N5 million, four months after not one person,” he added.
Explaining his criticism, Melaye said he wanted Nigerians to understand what he described as the extent of the country’s deterioration under the current administration.
“I’m saying this for us to know the extent of the damage and the rot, Nigeria has never had it this bad, we have never seen it this terrible,” he said.
