The call for electoral reforms dominated discussions in Abuja on Thursday as the Obidient Movement gathered for a national event covered by Njenje Media News. Dr. Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr. Mo, Secretary General of the Obidient Movement, used the occasion to stress that without urgent reforms, Nigerians risk repeating the cycle of dashed hopes in the 2025, 2026, and 2027 elections.

Dr. Mo, who also declared his candidacy for the chairmanship of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said his ambition symbolises the core values of the Obidient Movement—integrity, competence, and consistency—ideals he attributed to Mr. Peter Obi’s political philosophy.

“Every time we hold elections, hope is built across the nation, but again and again, that hope is dashed by a broken system,” Dr. Mo said, pointing to electoral malpractice, voter suppression, and compromised institutions as recurring obstacles.

He outlined five critical areas of reform: technological integrity in election management, independence of INEC, protection of voters from intimidation, a strong and impartial justice system, and broader people-oriented reforms to instil civic responsibility.

Dr. Mo also highlighted the importance of AMAC, describing it as “the most important local council in the country, bigger than about five states.” He emphasised that, with the presidency, the National Assembly, and over 120 embassies located in AMAC, governance at the local level is as critical as national leadership.

“Everything is local—education, health, transport, livelihood. Until we fix governance at the grassroots, national progress will remain elusive,” he added.

Before introducing the keynote speaker, Dr. Haruna Goro, whom he described as a “true Nigerian and a man of integrity revered across Africa,” Dr. Mo reiterated that reforming elections is the foundation for fixing governance, education, health, and the banking system.

The Abuja gathering, covered extensively by Njenje Media News, brought together members of the Obidient Movement, political leaders, and civil society advocates, all united in the push for a credible democratic process ahead of the next electoral cycle.
