ECOWAS Parliamentarians Seek Legislation On Cannabis Use

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and a member of the Ecowas Parliament, Benjamin Kalu calls for a clear protocol and position over the use of cannabis  across the world and particularly in the Ecowas region to know how to operate and legislate appropriately as he reacts to a presentation on drug abuse in the region by the UNODC at the floor of the Ecowas Parliament.
The increase in crime and criminality especially in the West African region has been a significant concern that affects the region’s stability and economic development.
At the Ecowas Parliament, a Representative from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime made on presentation on the impact of drug abuse in the region and how much the UN agency has helped in curbing this menace.
Some members of the Parliament want their countries to increase efforts  and the region to collaborate more.
UNODC believes education and enlightenment plays a significant role in the fight against drug use and abuse.
