FCT Police Command Strikes: Notorious Armed Robbery Kingpin Apprehended Alongside 4 Accomplices; Cache of Weapons Recovered

In a significant breakthrough, the FCT Police Command successfully apprehended Chukwuemeka Oputa, widely known as “Pounds and Dollar,” a notorious armed robbery kingpin, on April 4, 2024.

The 38-year-old, hailing from Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State, emerged as the leader of an infamous armed robbery gang responsible for a spate of violent crimes within the FCT region.Oputa’s capture followed the earlier arrest of Moses Hassan, a cultist and member of the same criminal syndicate, on February 14, 2024. Subsequent investigations led to the identification and apprehension of three additional gang members: Praise Etta, Rafael Dav (alias Raffy), and Thomas Akange.

 

All suspects, hailing from various states across Nigeria, have confessed to participating in numerous armed robberies and belonging to the Viking confraternity cult group.The operation yielded a substantial cache of weapons, including four locally fabricated AK47 rifles, three homemade rifles utilizing cartridges, an English pistol, a locally made pistol, and a Dane gun. Additionally, police recovered three AK47 ammunitions, a 5.56mm assault ammunition, and an empty cartridge from the suspects.

Efforts are underway to retrieve further evidence in possession of the apprehended individuals. Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, affirmed his unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety of FCT residents by ridding the area of criminal elements. He urged vigilance among the populace and encouraged prompt reporting of suspicious activities through designated emergency lines.SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer, conveyed the Commissioner’s message, underscoring the commitment of the FCT Police Command to maintaining peace and security within the region.
