Lagos first democratically elected Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande has passed on, Njenje Media News reports.
He was aged 91.
Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu took to twitter to announce the death of the celebrated former Lagos helmsman.
He wrote on twitter;
With gratitude to God for a worthy life well spent in the service of Lagos State, Nigeria and humanity, I announce the death of a venerable statesman, outstanding politician, public administrator and the first Civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande.
Njenje Media News recalls that Chief Lateef Jakande, codenamed ‘Baba Kekere’ was the executive Governor of Lagos state between 1979 and 1983 , elected under the umbrella of the then Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). His government is reported to be a pro-masses government as he was often touted as the best Lagos state governor ever.
