Tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday when unidentified gunmen reportedly stormed the home of a retired staff member of Ogun State Television, Ms Kitan Oyesiku, and allegedly killed her along with her security guard.
The incident was said to have occurred in Agodo community, located in the Kopabe area of Abeokuta. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving relatives, neighbours and acquaintances stunned by the development.
Sources said the bodies of the victims were discovered after the assailants had fled the scene.
Oyesiku was a familiar figure in the media industry, having worked with Ogun State Television, OGTV, before retiring from service.
Her death has triggered an outpouring of grief among former colleagues, friends and residents of Ogun State.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said an investigation had already begun.
He stated that official reaction from the State Police Command would be made available to newsmen as an investigation into the killings had commenced.
