On the festive occasion of Eid al-Kabir, the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. Nweze David Umahi, hosted the Muslim community of Ebonyi State at his residence in Abakaliki. The event, marked by a spirit of unity and generosity, saw Sen. Umahi encouraging Nigerians to reflect on the religious significance of Eid al-Kabir and to embrace its core values of sacrifice, charity, and harmonious co-existence.

During the gathering, Sen. Umahi praised the sense of unity among the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba communities in Ebonyi State. He urged the attendees to continue supporting and praying for President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration. Highlighting the President’s efforts to restore Nigeria to a path of honor and prosperity, Umahi emphasized the importance of communal support and unity.

“President Tinubu is trying very much to help this country. We know that things are hard. And if he doesn’t do what he’s doing, in the future, we may not have a country called Nigeria. So, the much his disciples can help, they try to help. That’s why I rushed home, so that I will join my government, to assist you people, to buy food, to celebrate. And so, I want you to pray for Mr. President and pray for our Governor. In Ebonyi State, there’s no discrimination, whether Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, or other tribes. We are one people,” said Sen. Umahi.

Sen. Umahi also urged the Muslim community to support the administration of Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. He commended the Governor’s inclusive leadership and steadfast commitment to the People’s Charter of Needs, stressing the importance of loyalty and responsiveness to governance at both the federal and state levels.

The celebration continued with former State Executive Council members and other stakeholders joining in to welcome the Honourable Minister to the State during the sallah holiday. In his address, Sen. Umahi reiterated the need for unity among Nigerians. “Let’s try to know that we are a community of one people. Let’s try to know that North, South, Central is just for the convenience of our political administration. Let’s be united, for if you are segregated, you are not helping the government,” he emphasized. He lauded the peaceful environment maintained in Ebonyi State, attributing it to the collaborative efforts of the government and the people.

In his response, Alhaji Idris Datti Suleiman, the spokesman for the Muslim faithful, expressed deep gratitude to Sen. Umahi for his consistent benevolence towards the Muslim community. He particularly appreciated the substantial sallah gifts and donations, noting that they were a testament to the Minister’s unique and compassionate leadership. “Permit me to say the truth. I was born and brought up in Ebonyi. I grew up here. We have had many Honourable Ministers since the creation of Ebonyi State to date. No one has shown such a kind gesture as you, the Honourable Minister of Works. Not any Minister has ever invited the Muslim faithfuls in his house to celebrate a Muslim festival. In fact, your own is quite unique because you invited us at a time that every Nigerian needed help. Thank you, sir,” said Alhaji Suleiman.

The event underscored Sen. Umahi’s commitment to fostering unity and compassion within the community, reflecting the broader goals of the federal and state administrations to create a cohesive and prosperous Nigeria.
