Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has spoken about public accountability, the management of government funds and his record in education during a radio interview with Option FM in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

Speaking about funds deposited in three different banks that generated interest, Obi said: “I wish everybody in this country left money in the bank they have interest. Nigeria would have been so rich that we don’t know what to do with money.”

He accused the country of turning honesty into a liability, alleging that dishonest individuals often unite to discredit those who act with integrity.

“In Nigeria, because it’s a criminalized place, the criminals will always come together to show what the honest person did. So in Nigeria, to be honest is to be a criminal. To be a criminal is to be honest,” he said.

Obi also defended his performance as Anambra State governor, particularly in the education sector, insisting that his achievements could be verified through official records.

“I was the best in education, basic education as a governor. You can go and check the records. Oyeka Nweko is coming number one,” he stated.

He further claimed that Professor Kole of Oxford University had visited Anambra State to witness what he described as significant improvements in the education sector.
